(Ankeny, IA ) — Ankeny Police are warning about a phone scam, where the caller claims you’ve won a prize.
A scammer recently claimed to be from Publishers Clearing House, telling a resident he’d won a truck, free gas, insurance and even cash for life. He even used the man’s nickname to sound legit.
The caller then told him to head to Walgreens or Dollar General for “instructions”, and wouldn’t give a working call back number. Police say that’s a major red flag. APD says legitimate prize organizations do not call winners at random, ask for unusual errands, or require contact through retail stores…
