Less than a month after the Houston City Council imposed a nighttime curfew on scooters, local rental companies are asking for a little wiggle room.
The current curfew hours under the ordinance, which unanimously passed 13-0 in mid-November, are between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. The reason for this particular time window is based on statistics provided by the Houston Fire Department from January 2021 through July 2025, where EMS crews were called to more than 500 incidents involving e-scooters—nearly 80 percent of them happening between that time window.
However, lobbyists and owners of locally-owned scooter rental companies Eryd (pronounced like E-Ride) and Bolt Scooters are reopening that conversation by asking for those hours to be amended slightly later to 10 or 11 p.m…
