Andover Firefighter Recovering After Being Attacked with Scissors and Woman Faces Charges

An Andover firefighter was injured after being slashed by a woman with medical scissors, authorities reported. Officers responded Monday near Elm Square to an altercation involving a mother and daughter. Andover Police Lt. Frank Fitzpatrick said the daughter, experiencing a mental health crisis, initially cooperated with first responders.

The situation escalated when the ambulance stopped shortly after leaving the scene. Police found that the 24-year-old woman had attacked the firefighter with trauma shears, cutting him below the nose. Boston25News reported that the patient was later transported for psychiatric treatment.

The woman is expected to face charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a public employee, pending her release from care.
