Wichita man gets prison for 2024 fatal shooting

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man has been sentenced to nearly 14 years in prison in connection with a fatal shooting in east Wichita.

Jose Velazquez Carrillo of Wichita was sentenced Wednesday to 165 months in prison, followed by three years of post-release supervision. That’s the maximum sentence, but he is eligible to have it reduced by 15% for good time.

Candance Amack, 42, was found shot around 4 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2024, outside of her home near George Washington Boulevard and Lincoln Street. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
