Albuquerque mother accused of driving drunk with toddler in car

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque mother is behind bars after police say she was driving drunk, crashed into a tree, and attempted to run away with her toddler still in the car. According to court documents, New Mexico State Police were dispatched to southeast Albuquerque to assist 22-year-old Shayla Poncho, who crashed into a tree. But when police arrived, they say she tried to run away with her toddler still in the car.

Poncho was arrested, and police found three Buzzballz in her car. The police said they took her to the hospital, where she became irritated, started screaming, and punched an officer. She was arrested on Thursday and is facing charges for child endangerment and DWI. Poncho’s child was released to her grandmother.
