Jeffco SWAT member was drunk responding to Evergreen High School shooting

DENVER (KDVR) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday that a sergeant who was a member of the agency’s SWAT team during its response to the Evergreen High School shooting on Sept. 10 was drunk.

Sgt. Anthony Hamilton resigned from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in lieu of being fired, the department said.

“The Evergreen High School shooting was a tragic event for our community, and we are proud of the professionalism and dedication shown by the deputies and partner agencies who responded that day. Their work helped bring a swift end to the threat and ensured the safety of students, staff, and families,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

“During the aftermath of the incident, our agency learned that a sergeant on the SWAT Team who responded to the scene while off duty was under the influence of alcohol,” the office continued. “This conduct falls far outside the standards and expectations of the Sheriff’s Office. The sergeant was placed on leave, and an internal investigation was conducted. That process has since concluded, and the employee resigned in lieu of termination.”…
