ANCHORAGE, AK (Alaska’s News Source) – 70 mph wind gusts hit the Pribilof island of Saint Paul Wednesday. The winds have been whipping up wave heights and sending them crashing to shore. The strong winds also damaged a roof in the community according to residents. Blowing snow is reducing visibility and wind chills are in play, making it feel even colder across many western Alaska locations.
High pressure is over Russia out west, with low pressure rotating over the Aleutians. The proximity and position of these two opposing systems is funneling cold air through the Bering Strait and Sea, with it set to impact Western mainland areas by Friday.
Fairbanks saw a good snowfall Wednesday, (it started Tuesday night). Some inland areas getting 5 to 8 inches of new snow. Now that there is new snow to recreate on, the next concern is for cold arctic air…
