Hopkinsville Man Charged with Drug Trafficking After Madisonville Pursuit

A Hopkinsville man was arrested on drug trafficking and other charges after fleeing from police in Madisonville during a traffic stop on I-69 Thursday morning.

Police say just before 11 a.m., an officer stopped a car driving erratically on the interstate near the 108 turn around and noticed a strong smell of marijuana, as well as marijuana debris on the driver, 24-year-old Shaphane Stowe, who showed signs of impairment.

While awaiting backup, police say Stowe sped off, nearly hitting the officer, and then threw a bag containing suspected drug from his car during the pursuit. Police say Stowe eventually stopped near the 117-mile marker and was arrested without further incident…
