Ribbon cutting marks the completion of Pufferbelly Trail’s ‘Golden Spike’

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — The City of Fort Wayne’s Public Works Division, Fort Wayne Trails, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and surrounding businesses and residents celebrated the opening of the “Golden Spike” section of the Pufferbelly Trail.

The portion of the trail was officially opened in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday afternoon. The project began in August of 2024 to fill a gap along busy roads, and was announced two months prior in June.

‘Golden Spike’ of Pufferbelly Trail almost completed

Located from Ice Way to Washington Center Road, the city hopes that the 12-foot-wide asphalt trail will provide access to nearly 700 businesses, including those in the Glenbrook Square Mall, as well as the Parkview SportONE Fieldhouse and Icehouse.

This 1.7-mile section of the trail will feature a rest area, a pavilion, traffic signals, a bike repair station, park benches and picnic tables, drinking water fountains, trash containers, and dog waste stations. Additional landscaping, historical and wayfinding signage, information kiosks, solar-powered bollards, graphics, and sidewalk connections can be found throughout the trail…
