KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville man has pleaded guilty to a 2024 assault in which he threatened to shoot a woman, District Attorney General Charme Allen’s office announced on Friday.
In a release, Allen’s office said Michael Lee Powell, 35, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a firearm, aggravated burglary, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and aggravated assault. After the victim testified at trial, Powell pleaded guilty and accepted a 25-year sentence without the possibility of parole.

During the two-day trial that turned into a plea hearing, prosecutors explained to the jury that on September 26, 2024, Knoxville Police officers responded to a domestic disturbance on New York Avenue. A 911 caller reported to police that neighbors and firefighters saw Powell arguing with the victim and chasing her across the street.
According to the DA’s office, the police investigation determined that Powell began arguing with the victim after he came home and demanded to see her phone. During that argument, he also pinned her to a bed and struck her, Allen’s office said…
