Preparation and patience urged for drivers facing treacherous winter roads

As winter weather sweeps across the Midwest, drivers face treacherous road conditions that can quickly turn dangerous.

Curt Wheeler, a program developer of transportation and mandated programs at Kirkwood Community College’s Continuing Education Training Center, says the most common mistake drivers make is underestimating the seriousness of snow and ice.

“They either don’t make sure their cars are prepared, they don’t make sure their tires are in good condition and of course when you’re out there driving, it’s challenging enough with good tires, but it becomes dang near impossible when you’re on bald tires. Extremely dangerous, those kinds of things,” he said…
