New Orleans police chief concerned about new criminal justice computer system

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) — A local electronic monitoring company says a recent system change left an alleged domestic abuse victim unprotected when her accused abuser was released from jail without required safety measures in place. The issue has raised concerns from city law enforcement leadership.

ASAPrelease said the victim contacted the company in fear after learning her alleged abuser, Ryan Day, had been released without a court-ordered protective feature enabled on his electronic monitor. The company said the problem stems from a transition to a new $30 million computer system used by the courts.

“This particular individual has been out of jail for seven days. There’s no victim protection, there’s no home incarceration, he’s under the impression that he can move freely and this has caused him to work in another state that’s not allowed,” said Amber Dennis with ASAPrelease…
