Truck carrying excavator hits Kirkland overpass, closing pedestrian bridge for inspection

KIRKLAND, Wash. — A truck carrying an excavator struck a light and pedestrian overpass along southbound I-405 near the northeast 85th Street interchange in Kirkland, causing partial blockage and full closure of the pedestrian bridge early Thursday, according to Washington State Patrol (WSP).

While all lanes of southbound I-405 remained open, the southbound on-ramp at Northeast 116th Avenue was briefly reduced to one lane and fully reopened after crews worked to repair a traffic signal, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).

WSDOT, WSP have not said if the truck that damaged the overpass in Kirkland will be held accountable…
