PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Residents and business owners are calling for action in the St.Johns neighborhood. This comes as a new online petition is making its rounds online, asking leaders to move the location of the North Portland Day Center.
Right now, the day center sits at 9000 N. Lombard St. and is open Monday-Friday. The petition goes on to say the center has created “unintended consequences” for the neighborhood.
“When I had that double break in I wasn’t exaggerating when I said I was already living paycheck to paycheck,” Steven Cook, owner of Vinyl Resting Place, told KATU News. He says, because of the crime and lack of resources in the area, he’s considering closing his doors. “It’s gotten much worse, a lot worse, since it’s opened.”…
