Dorcey Applyrs, in her role as Chief City Auditor, revealed a Housing Audit for the City of Albany this week, a 10-year look at the factors and challenges facing Albany residents when it comes to housing. Applyrs is the Mayor-Elect, so this report will be a key factor as she takes office in January.
“The purpose was really to create a foundation for the development of a comprehensive housing plan for the city that’s right-sized for the city,” Applyrs told CBS6. “It is taking this very abstract conversation about housing and the City’s housing challenges and needs and making it real with tangible numbers but also input. During this process, we talked to developers, we talk to residents, we talk to housing advocates, and so it makes it a living, breathing thing that we can now use as a tool to shape how housing looks in the city of Albany.”
