The last few weeks in Buffalo have been pretty interesting on the local government front. Since residents of the Empire State wrapped up the 2025 local and county election cycle, we’ve seen new government administrations getting ready to come into power in New York State’s two largest cities.
In New York City, New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani is getting ready to take over the reins from Eric Adams, and in Buffalo, State Senator Sean Ryan is on the verge of taking over from Common Council President Chris Scanlon.
Both cities are getting ready to see some big changes in their city hall, but it may be Buffalo that is in for the biggest change.

Buffalo, which has been running under the control of the same people for nearly two decades, hasn’t seen a whole lot of change in City Hall. While the city itself has changed quite a bit since 2006, the halls of city government have been pretty stagnant for the last 20 years.
