State turns over lethal injection information to Knox County chancellor as inmate’s execution nears

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The state of Tennessee has turned over to a Knox County chancellor information about its supply of a lethal injection drug, after the chancellor this week turned down the state’s last-minute bid for a four-week delay.

Chancellor John F. Weaver ordered the state last month to provide him with information about the state’s supply of pentobarbital, a barbiturate it uses to execute inmates. Lawyers for Harold Wayne Nichols seek the information, arguing it’s public. But the state has resisted for months, arguing it’s highly sensitive and private.

By order, the state was to turn the information over by Wednesday…
