Judge Stambaugh reinstated to the bench after fraud charges dismissed

York County Judge Steven Stambaugh, suspended from the bench after being accused of fraud charges in October 2024, has been reinstated now that the charges have been dismissed, according to an order from the state Court of Judicial Discipline.

The indictment, which accused the judge of fraud, tampering with a witness and obstruction of justice, has been dismissed after Stambaugh entered a diversionary program. Prosecutors this week asked a federal judge to dismiss the charges this week.

After the U.S. Attorney’s office moved to dismiss the charges against Stambaugh, the judge asked the disciplinary board to reinstate him to the bench. The board wrote that Stambaugh was suspended without pay “based solely on the existence of an indictment” against him. Now that the indictment has been dismissed, the court ruled that “no reason exists for that suspension to continue,” according to the disciplinary’s court’s filing…
