CORDOVA, Tenn. (WMC) – A fire destroyed the home of Shelby County Sheriff’s Deputy Phil Amuzu early Friday morning, forcing four family members to flee and leaving them without shelter as temperatures are expected to drop.
The blaze broke out around 1 a.m. at the residence in Cordova where the Amuzu family has lived for nearly 20 years. Video from the scene showed heavy flames engulfing the home as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire.
All four people inside escaped safely, though the family’s 18-year-old son suffered a minor burn on his nose. The family believes a new Vizio TV purchased last week sparked the fire.
“Everything was lost, let me say that,” said Teri Dockery, a family friend helping the Amuzus. “They need clothes. We have the sizes, they need shoes.”…
