City of Mobile Invests in Free Construction Training for Local Residents with New Homebuilding Academy

The City of Mobile, Alabama, has allocated $100,000 to start the South Alabama Homebuilding Academy (SAHA). The Mobile City Council approved the funding on December 2, 2025, after a proposal from Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis. This is a one-time performance contract for workforce development.

SAHA is based on similar programs in Alabama. It will provide free, hands-on training in basic construction skills, safety, and trades such as roofing, plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, and HVAC.
