Green Bay school district seeks approval for early start to 2026-27 academic year

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — The Green Bay Area Public School District may ask the state to start the 2026-27 school year a day early.

State law requires district to start classes on or after Sept. 1. But, citing “several major construction projects scheduled for the summer of 2027,” the district wants to start Monday, Aug. 31, according to a memo that is a part of Monday’s school board agenda.

“These projects are significant in scope and will require an extended construction window to be completed safely and on time. Without an earlier start to summer work, the timeline for these projects would directly interfere with the District’s ability to begin the 2027–28 school year on a reasonable date,” the memo states…
