WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Kansas man will be resentenced for his mother’s murder, the Kansas Supreme Court ruled Friday.
In early 2024, Kyle Romey was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole for more than 54 years for the 2021 murder of Denyce Briet. She was found dead at a Goddard home from blunt-force trauma.
The Kansas Supreme Court rejected Romey’s challenges to the conviction but agreed that the district court should not have included three Kansas felonies and one Louisiana misdemeanor when calculating his criminal history score. The case will be returned to a lower court for resentencing…
