Sierra High students take learning into the wild with wolf documentary

TRUCKEE, Calif. — A group of 15 Sierra High School students have spent the past four months producing a 15-minute documentary exploring the return of gray wolves to California — and what that means for ranchers, local communities, and the environment in the Tahoe-Truckee and Sierra Valley region.

The students’ short film has already captured attention beyond the school. It has been selected to screen at both the Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Grass Valley and the International Wildlife Film Festival in Missoula, Montana — two well-respected environmental and wildlife film festivals.

“This is a very interesting and important topic,” said SHS student Brianna Vigarass. “It leaves you with questions — some answered, others left wide open for nature to answer. You may wonder, ‘What brought the wolves back after a hundred years? Food supply? What could it be?’”…
