New Alexandria bus route with service to downtown D.C. launches this month

A new Metrobus route in Alexandria will offer transfer-free service to downtown D.C. starting later this month.

The new A29 bus will begin service on Sunday, Dec. 14, with rides offered every 24 minutes in the morning and afternoon via the I-395 Express Lanes, including during rush hours. Morning service will operate north to Metro Center, with afternoon service running south toward Van Dorn Street.

The route connects the following bus stops, according to Metrobus.

  • Metro Center
  • Shirlington
  • Park Center
  • Southern Towers
  • Market Center
  • N. Beauregard Street
  • West Alexandria Transit Center (formerly Landmark Mall)
  • Van Dorn Street Station

The new route is one of more than 50 Metrobus routes to see updates by WMATA as the transit agency aims to “improve reliability, reduce crowding, strengthen connections, and respond to customer and operator feedback since the June network launch,” according to an announcement…
