South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy training session teaches officers gun training, de-escalation techniques

FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Every law enforcement officer in South Carolina receives training from the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, and this particular session gave them the opportunity to observe everything from firearm training, de-escalation techniques, and even the amount of force to use when necessary.

For 12 weeks, a basic law enforcement training program is mandatory for certified officers in South Carolina, says Jackie Swindler, director of the Criminal Justice Academy.

“We have one academy here for the state of South Carolina regardless of what agency you go to work at in South Carolina,” he said. “Whether it be a one person, or 500 officers, a city or county or state agency, they all come to the academy here.”…
