An intense and tragic situation unfolded at the Jamison Apartments in Kissimmee when a 30-year-old man involved in a reported domestic battery incident took himself hostage and was later shot and killed by responding deputies, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. The ordeal, which began sometime around 10:40 a.m. yesterday, escalated to the point where the suspect showcased his handgun and suicidal ideation during a Facebook Live session, as reported by ClickOrlando.
Deputies first arrived on scene to engage with the suspect, only for him to lock himself within his apartment. Attempts to negotiate his surrender via hostage negotiators and family members persisted throughout the day. In a move to end the standoff, deputies deployed a chemical agent, leading to the man exiting the apartment and assuming a prone position outside. Despite the suspect lying on the ground, the situation took a fatal turn just before 9 p.m., as deputies, reacting to the suspect firing his weapon, returned fire, according to officials to FOX 35 Orlando.
Transported to Osceola Regional, the suspect was later pronounced dead.
