Moped rider suffers head trauma in Otay Mesa crash

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 23-year-old man was seriously injured Friday after his moped collided with an SUV in Otay Mesa, authorities said.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the crash happened around 2:40 p.m. in the 2100 block of Britannia Boulevard as a 45-year-old woman was driving a black 2018 Cadillac XTS SUV northbound in the right lane. At the same time, a man on a black and gray moped was traveling to the right of slower-moving vehicles in that same lane.

As the SUV driver began making a right turn into a driveway, the moped rider struck the passenger side of the vehicle. The impact left the 23-year-old with severe head trauma, authorities said.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the collision.
