Urbandale businessman faces charges for loan fraud and false bankruptcy claims

DES MOINES, Iowa — An Urbandale man has been charged with making false statements on loan applications and during bankruptcy proceedings after a federal grand jury returned a three-count indictment last month.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Southern District of Iowa, the indictment was returned Nov. 13 to 57-year-old Henry J. Schappert.

He is accused of applying for and obtaining over $415,000 of Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans in 2020 and 2021, allegedly on behalf of his company Allied Exteriors…
