Minneapolis Police Mourn the Loss of Recruit Officer Amara Kanneh; MPD Emphasizes Support for Department Members During Grief

The Minneapolis Police Department has reported the sudden and unexpected death of one of their own. Recruit Officer Amara Kanneh, who was off duty at the time, passed away on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025.

Hired on October 6th, 2025, Officer Kanneh was in the midst of pre-service training at the Minneapolis Police Academy, taking the first steps in what was expected to be a commendable career in law enforcement. “My heart goes out to Recruit Officer Kanneh’s family, and I am grateful they shared their loved one with us,” Chief O’Hara expressed in a statement, according to the official bulletin released by the MPD. The Chief remembered Kanneh as “a kind, respectful, generous person who was excited to join the MPD ranks.” He added that the young officer “will forever be remembered as a valued member of our MPD family.”…
