Temperatures took a hit today and will recover by tomorrow.
Winds are now from the south in Western Kansas and will track east across the state tonight. This will enable overnight lows to not be as cold. It will still be below freezing early Friday morning across Kansas.
By Friday afternoon, it will feel better with a recovery to the 40s and some 50s. There is a slight wind shift during the day with an increase in upper-level clouds.
Santa will have a smooth ride into Naftzger Park for the Winter Wonderland celebration Friday evening. Temps will cool to the 30s later in the evening, requiring warm winter gear. Nothing that a hot cup of cocoa could not fix!
This weekend, temperatures will be milder on Saturday and chillier on Sunday. A front will come through. If enough moisture can gather, there may be areas of drizzle over eastern Kansas. There is a chance for a few rain and/or snow showers to skim the Nebraska state line and arc over to Kansas City Saturday night into Sunday morning. Amounts look light with a higher focus for snowfall in Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, east of Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs play on KSN Sunday night. Temps will be bitter for the evening game with a 7:15 PM kickoff. Wear the warm winter gear and prepare for temps to dip to the upper teens by the 4th quarter. Winds will be light which will not add a whole lot to the wind chill factor under a party cloudy to mostly clear sky.
Next week, temperatures bounce back. We are looking at 40s and 50s for highs by Monday. On Tuesday, some temps could climb into the 60s in the west! Another cold front will dip south by Wednesday. It takes the top off temps, not an absurdly cold change, once we get on the other side. There might be some rain and snow tied to this boundary. However, moisture looks meager.
