The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed Thursday that alerts of a 5.9 magnitude earthquake in Nevada were a false alarm.
On its website, the USGS said that its ShakeAlert early-warning system sent out an “incorrect alert” at 8:06 a.m. local time Thursday for a quake near Reno and Carson City, Nev. The survey noted that the event did not occur and has been deleted from its websites and data feeds.
