KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Thursday’s fatal crash on Chapman Highway marks one of six pedestrian deaths in Knox County so far this year. Knoxville Police say overall fatal crashes in their jurisdiction are down about 40% compared to this time in 2024, but warn the risks along busy corridors haven’t gone away.
KPD Communications Manager Scott Erland said Chapman Highway is one of the areas where officers frequently see not just pedestrian-involved crashes, but crashes in general.

“Chapman Highway is an area where we frequently see, not just pedestrian-involved crashes, but just crashes in general. Again, for some of the same factors we talk about, is it’s a really busy road with numerous busy intersections and a lot of vehicle traffic.”
