DURHAM, N.C. — A routine patrol turned into a major drug and weapons bust early Friday morning when Durham County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a vehicle that fled from a red-light violation. The stop led to the recovery of two semi-automatic Draco handguns and 47 grams of marijuana, according to investigators.
Just after 1 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, deputies spotted a vehicle running a red light near NC 98 and Patterson Road. When the deputy attempted a traffic stop, the driver tried to escape, turning onto Ravenstone Lane before crashing into a brick monument at the neighborhood entrance.
After the crash, the passenger jumped out and ran, leaving the driver injured but still on the scene. Deputies called EMS for treatment of minor injuries before searching the vehicle. Inside, they found the drugs and handguns packaged alongside other paraphernalia.
