Inside Monroe County’s new crime center, a real-time Situation Room

A team of analysts sitting inside a new multi-million dollar crime center in Greece can now pull live video feeds from police body-worn cameras, patrol cars and drones into one place ― accessing unprecedented, real-time data and information about an incident as it unfolds.

As the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office continues to build out the Regional Investigative Operations Center ― or RIOC ― next year, law enforcement officials will add hundreds of license plate readers and security cameras in schools, hospitals and retail stores to this new arsenal of surveillance technology.

Sheriff Todd Baxter called the center a “force multiplier” for local law enforcement. It will also dramatically change how our communities are watched.
