(FOX 5/KUSI) — A San Diego man pleaded guilty in federal court this week to using an explosive to destroy an ATM in Rancho Bernardo last year.
Son Nguyen, 46, admitted that on June 28, 2024, he drove up to a First Citizens Bank ATM in Rancho Bernardo and inserted a metal rod into the cash dispenser slot.
After removing the rod, he inserted another device with wires attached to it and then pulled the wires, which led to its electrical components catching fire. The ATM was destroyed in the process, according to prosecutors.
