‘Failure so egregious’: Chatham DA reacts to release of body before autopsy

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — Chatham County District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones released a statement Friday about the release of a stabbing victim’s body for cremation before an autopsy could be performed.

J.T. Schroeder was stabbed outside of a Whitemarsh Walmart in October and died shortly after. Delano Middleton was arrested and charged with murder in connection to Schroeder’s death.

Schroeder’s body was cremated before an autopsy could be performed, the Chatham County Police Department confirmed Tuesday.

A hold was ordered by both the Chatham County Coroner’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for his autopsy.
