On December 4, 2025, Louisiana State Police responded to a crash on Louisiana Highway 96 near Highway 345 in St. Martin Parish. The crash involved a 2002 Toyota Tundra driven by 61-year-old Kongkham Phommachanh of New Iberia. The vehicle left the roadway on a curve and overturned. Phommachanh, who was wearing a seatbelt, was seriously injured and later died at a hospital.
