In a clear shift towards urgency, the Nashville Police Department has sounded the alarm on a staggering trend in gun thefts in the city, particularly from unattended vehicles. According to a recent press release, Nashville has seen a significant number of firearms snatched from parked cars this year. Specifically, the Nashville.gov website reports that, out of the 1,205 guns stolen in Davidson County in 2025, a worrisome 77% were lifted from automobiles. The department is imploring citizens to take extra precautions, securing valuables and locking car doors to dampen this rising tide of gun thefts.
While the numbers are stark, they reflect an increase from last year, when 839 guns had been reported as stolen from vehicles at the same point in time, per the same source.
