UPDATE: Wichita Police have released more information regarding a standoff in south Wichita early Saturday.
It started around 12:45 a.m., in the 2000 block of S. Mosley. Officers responded after an 18-year-old man assulted his 42-year-old step-mother with a rifle and threatened to shoot others. The woman was found in a different location of the residence and had injuries to her head. She was taken to an area hospital, treated and released.
Officers learned the suspect was threatening a shoot out with police. They tried to contact the suspect, but he refused to come out and speak with officers. Crisis negotiators attempted to contact the suspect multiple times loudspeakers, but were unsuccessful. Police secured a warrant and SWAT deployed bean bag rounds and a flash-bang device. Afterwards, the suspect exited the structure, saw SWAT officers and a police K9, and surrendered peacefully just efore 6:25 a.m. and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail…
