Off-duty North Carolina officer found unconscious in McDonald’s drive-thru, arrested for DWI

BELMONT, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An off-duty police officer was arrested overnight after being found unconscious behind the wheel of his car in the drive-thru lane of a local McDonald’s, according to the Belmont Police Department.

Around 12:30 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a call reporting a vehicle stopped in the McDonald’s drive-thru with the driver unresponsive.

When officers arrived at the McDonald’s, located at 505 N. Main Street, they found Officer James Garland Reagan, a school resource officer who has served with the department since 2014, asleep in the driver’s seat of his personal vehicle.
