CARMEL, Ind. – A drunk driver crashed into a fire truck while responding to a crash in Carmel Saturday evening.
According to the Carmel Fire Department, fire crews were already working a previous crash on East 146th Street near Spring Mills Ponds. As firefighters were caring for a patient from the original accident, a driver went around a police car that was blocking the road and hit the fire engine, CFD said.
Fire crews say the car crashed into the fire engine just seconds after a firefighter had placed tools in the back compartment. CFD says no firefighters or bystanders were injured.
“This is exactly why you often see multiple fire trucks and police cars at crash scenes.” CFD said. “They create a protective buffer to help prevent other vehicles from entering the area and striking first responders.”…
