K-9 helps capture teen who allegedly threatened girlfriend with gun at Publix

A Lady Lake teen was arrested after allegedly strangling his girlfriend and threatening to shoot her in a Publix bathroom.

An officer responded to Leesburg Fire Station #62, located at 2014 Griffin Rd., for a battery involving 18-year-old Jakyreon Lavonne Cooper and his girlfriend around 7:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.

The girlfriend was visibly distraught, emotionally shaken and crying by the time the officer got there. She exhibited clear signs of fear and psychological distress as she recalled a verbal confrontation with Cooper over Instagram messages he saw on her phone in her apartment building, the report said.

During the argument, he escalated the encounter to physical violence by forcefully pushing her and grabbing her by the collar of her shirt. He pulled her toward him while declaring he was going to kill her. They were inside her bedroom at the time, and when she tried to leave, he blocked the doorway with his body and closed the door, the report said…
