Birmingham Gas Prices Inch Up, Still Below Last Year’s Average

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — Gas prices in Birmingham saw a slight uptick over the past week, rising 2.7 cents to an average of $2.64 per gallon, according to new data from GasBuddy released Monday. Despite the week-to-week increase, prices remain just under a penny lower than a month ago and 9.1 cents below their level this time last year.

GasBuddy’s survey of 550 Birmingham-area stations found a wide price range across the city. The cheapest gas reported Sunday was $2.36 per gallon, while the most expensive reached $3.19 — an 83-cent swing. Statewide, prices ranged from $2.31 to $3.39 per gallon.

Nationally, gas prices continued their downward trend. The average price of gasoline dropped 5 cents over the last week to $2.90 per gallon, while diesel slid 5.1 cents to $3.67 per gallon. Both are significantly lower than a month ago…
