From restaurants in Grand Rapids to small retailers in the Upper Peninsula, workers across Michigan are set to earn more in the year ahead. The state’s minimum wage will rise to $13.73 an hour on Jan. 1, 2026, continuing Michigan’s multi-year effort to boost pay for low-wage employees.
The increase is expected to impact thousands of workers, employers and local communities as Michigan moves steadily toward a $15 minimum wage by 2027. It is part of a planned series of adjustments under Michigan’s Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act, which began phasing in wage updates in early 2025.
