Aiken Co. woman charged by SLED with insurance fraud

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WJBF) – An Aiken County woman has been charged by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) with insurance fraud.

According to SLED, Dearra Lashay Griffin, 39, was formally charged with Presenting a False Claim for Insurance Payment – Value $10,000 or More on Monday.

According to the arrest warrant, Griffin submitted a false claim for an insurance payment to GEICO reporting that her 2017 Kia Sportage was stolen from I-20 near Mile Marker 33 on July 9th, but GEICO was contacted by a local repair facility that the insured vehicle had been on the repair facility’s lot since July 6th…
