CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — Conway Medical Center has completed a complex, limb-saving bypass surgery that has never been done locally before, marking a major step forward in the way emergency vascular care is handled in Horry County.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Ana Paula Morales Allende, a vascular surgeon, who treated a patient suffering from a sudden artery blockage behind their knee — a rare but dangerous condition that can lead to limb loss within hours.
“I think it’s so important that we have vascular care here. Now, we can get to you faster, and we can perform these surgeries faster, closer to home, without you having to be referred to a different center,” she said. “You want to do it as soon as possible.
