NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is warning about a rise in cases involving a fungus in the Midstate.
TDH is warning clinicians and laboratories of an increase in histoplasmosis cases. A Health Alert Network Advisory says there have been at least 18 cases in Williamson and Maury Counties.
The fungal infection is caused by inhaling spores from soil contaminated by bird or bat waste. People are usually exposed when remodeling or demolishing old buildings or clearing trees or brush…
