Zebulon father faces death penalty for killing four children amid new execution law

A Zebulon father who in late October admitted to killing four of his children appeared in court last Thursday for a pre-trial hearing in which the state announced it intends to seek the death penalty.

Wellington Delano Dickens III was arrested and charged with the murder of his three children, aged 6, 9, and 10, as well as his 18-year-old stepchild after he called 911 and told them that the bodies of the deceased were stored in his garage.

Last Thursday, he appeared in court to take part in a Rule 24 hearing, a type of hearing called before proceedings begin in cases where the prosecution is seeking the death penalty…
