The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has increased enforcement actions in New Orleans through Operation Catahoula Crunch. The operation has led to several arrests, including Jorge Vierra-Serrano, a Cuban national convicted of forcible rape and aggravated battery. Authorities state that Vierra-Serrano had previously avoided law enforcement due to local sanctuary policies.
Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that the operation targets individuals involved in serious crimes, such as rape, theft, human smuggling, domestic abuse, and child endangerment. She said the administration aims to enforce federal law regardless of local sanctuary policies.
Those arrested include Hander Bladimar Monrroy-Santiago from Guatemala, previously arrested for smuggling, and Darlin Perdomo-Rodriguez from Honduras, who has a history of domestic abuse and child endangerment.
