ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Village of Rockton is planning to implement a new filtration system to reduce PFAS levels in the villages water supply.
“The PFAS is a chemical that people are worried about now,” Village Adminstrator Happy Welch said. “It’s being talked about a lot because they are forever chemicals. They don’t go away. They can’t be filtered out by the rock.”
Rockton supplies its residents with well water which involves a process of digging about 1,000 feet into the ground. Water that deep will naturally have different substances that need to filter out like sand, dust, and other particles. The village already has a system in place to filter those chemicals out, but not PFAS. Because of this, the village now has a significant problem to address…
